Tip 15 - Why are they shooting at me?

Third (and hopefully final) in the 'true newbie' sequence.

For reminding me of stuff that ought to be in.

Right. The first reason they might be shooting at you, is becasue they aint on your team.
Getting confused as to what colour someone is CAN happen, they might well be an enemy.
Also, the game has bugs - sometimes someone shows up with the wrong colour.

The second reason is because they think you are a spy. It's pretty easy to prove that you aren't - fire your weapon (at a wall or something) That's the most obviously noticeable proof.
Changing weapons can work too, but it is harder to see, so don't rely upon it.

Don't shoot back.

Spychecking is a generally good idea. Rather than leave your defenders worry that you MIGHT be a spy, ALWAYS fire your gun when entering an area they are guarding (like the flag room, or ramp room)

The third reason they are shooting at you, is because you are a spy.
Your REAL name will show upto teammates, but that's not always obvious.
Shouting 'please stop firing, I am a spy' over teamchat is your best defence.
Warning your team in advance that you are becoming a spy is also good.

Try NOT to disguise as an enemy where your team might get confused - you'll mess up your own defence (who will waste time shooting at you rather than at the enemy)
Best is to disguise as a freindly in your base, then run out, (so that enemy attackers don't realise you are a spy) then redisguise to an enemy once you are hidden in their base.

The fourth reason they might be firing at you is to heal you.

Sounds stupid, but it's true - the engineers spanner thwacking into you increases your armour, not hurts you.

And a friednly medic heals you, rather than infecting you.

The fifth reason they might be firing at you is because you lok damn suspicious to them.
Running towards your teams flag / flag room.
Staring into space for a long time, or worse, at a sentry gun.
Running into and out of an area mutiple times (looks like you are checking to see if they are gone yet, but probably means you got lost)
Those things make you look like a spy... and so they'll fire at you.

Fire your weapon (but not at them) to prove you aren't, and try not to do it again.

The sixth reason is because they are zoned out, and firing at anything that moves. Or they are brain dead, and deliberately firing at teammates.

In either of these cases, don't fire back.

Ok, some final tis to make your teammates love you.
Don't attack as a HWG - especially don't carry the flag as one.
Don't defend as a spy or a scout (or a medic, unless you get REALLY good)
If you are an engineer, spanner them as they pass - and build a sentrygun! Don't stand around waiting, build a sentry gun, get more ammo, keep upgrading it...
Don't spam your own base with grenades.
Don't throw too many grenades into the middle area of the map.

Ok, best to keep this short - so I'll finish with a few more abbreviations.

'sg' - sentry gun
'np' - "No problem"
'omw' - "On my way"
'nme' - Enemy
