Bob's Diary
What follows are extracts from the Diary of Jim "Bob" Carrington, edited for sake of consistency and clarity:
(3rd
Session):
24th July 2013 :
Things have been pretty quiet recently, I've used the time to get
better behind the wheel and to improve my first aid, Kuri seems
to be giving us the simple stuff after the marine facility, I
think we kind of pissed her off a bit by torching the place,
frankly I think it's the only thing we could have done, well at
least the supply run keeps us in practice.
The team seems to be gelling quite nicely, we got a new guy, Sly,
joining the team, Ghost seems to be off on permanent advance
training so I suppose Sly's his replacement.
13th August 2013:
Sly and Bitch seem to be getting on quite well, even I notice
that one, he's a good bloke, very decisive, very competent, I
wonder what he did to get stuck with us.
I've given Kuri a note with what I want in the jeep next time we
take one out today, with any luck that should make sure I'm not
without coffee again on a mission.
16th September 2013:
Alpha Team have been gone for about 3 weeks now, the place seems
to be quiet without them. We've been promoted to Gamma Squad
after Charlie Team got transferred. The new recruits decided they
wanted to be called Delta Force rather than our old name of
D-Team, fair enough, I prefer the none -pretentious version but
it's their choice, just like I told them this morning at
breakfast.
I've been here almost a year now, the building's starting to feel
like home now, I've even got used to the hard bunks, that never
happened in the Army, it always felt somewhere I wasn't supposed
to be, I joined because my father thought it would be a good
idea, that and I drank my way to E's at GCSE and had the job
prospects of a disembodied newt otherwise. Dad used to love the
regimentation that went on in the Army, I suppose that was the
one thing I didn't like, maybe why I get on here so well, they
don't fuck about with ceremony or standing orders, they just get
the job done, maybe it's why he and I didn't get on well, I still
miss him though, funny that.
It seems strange, I thought Dad and I would get on better when I
joined the Army, it certainly got me straightened out, at first
it did but he started to get uncomfortable with the Army and
especially me in it, even before Steven died. I wish I'd asked
him what was bothering him so much that last time we met, I wish
he would have given me a proper answer if I had.
25th October 2013:
Well, Kuri finally trusts us to give us another mission, we
almost screwed up the briefing but never mind, we also found
what's been happening to Alpha team. There's a new Crime Lord in
town he's called Tony the Chef and he's starting to show up on
the crime figures, as a result the local police want us to take
him out and as many of his gang as possible. Thanks to Alpha team
providing intelligence we got 3 choices: a) take him out at an
art exhibition he was due to attend, b) take him out while he
visits on of his many little shops, c) take him out while he
takes delivery of a shipment. a) was out on the grounds that no
one like civilian casualties, b) would have been too public for
our liking so we went for c).
The plan's simple, hijack the boat the shipment is supposed to
turn up on, put our half the team on board while the others go on
to the dock and set up an ambush, we sail in, wait until he comes
out and then fill is corpse with lead from several directions at
once and then take out some henchmen before escaping in the speed
boat. Simple, effective, and reasonably safe. We go in 5 days,
What could possibly go wrong?
30th October 2013:
Well not everything's working quite to plan so far, after a
slight misunderstanding in navigation (I still maintain the boat
veered off course, not us) we caught up with the boat we were
meant to hijack, boarded her and shot the crew dead (not exactly
what was planned but they got wise and we were out of options).
One of the crew tried to get a message out but fortunately we
think we got the jamming equipment working in time. The others
have left with Me, Spock, Blue and Sly on board, with any luck
everything else should work OK from now on.
31st October 2013:
I'd better start off explaining things from the start on this
one. As planned the thieves got the mainland and set up the
ambush, a few hours later we pulled up the docks and waited for
the Chef to arrive with his goons. We weren't disappointed, the
Crime Lord pulled up in a swish black limo, bullet-proof, silver
hub caps, the works, and they say crime doesn't pay, bollocks, we
were about to deliver some interest. Tony brought with him a
small army of Mooks to take delivery of the shipment, he then
went into a nearby warehouse where we couldn't get to him. At
this point the plan went out of the window and we had to
improvise, leaving my AK on the bridge I decided to follow Tony
and a couple of his goons into the warehouse in order to get him
there, nice and quick, meanwhile Bitch and Pixie decided to do
the same, unfortunately this left Blue and Sly hiding behind the
boxes in the boat, boxes Tony's guys were starting to unload.
When I got inside the warehouse I found Tony, surrounded by Goons
torturing one of his people (I recognised this guy from the
briefing, it was one of his right hand guys, obviously this guy
was doing something bad to deserve this), there were about 5
Goons, and a weird Guy in a Hockey mask, gods I wish I never laid
eyes on that one. Unfortunately I didn't get enough time to
appreciate the subtleties of the situation because at that point
Sly and Blue began to open fire outside.
Tony began to run, the Goons reached for their guns, I decided to
take down the chef before he could escape and got off a shot with
my pistol which bounced off some sort of Force Field he was
wearing, I've seen stuff like that before, it's next to
impossible to get hold of it legally or illegally, diplomats
only. The Hockey mask guy started to organise the Goons into an
advancing wall, I think I got shot at some point here, it's
tricky to remember exactly, at this point a full fire fight had
erupted outside, five of the mooks tried to escape on motorbike,
one tried to come through the door into the warehouse, just in
time to catch my grenade and plow into the wall of goons with the
bike. The hockey mask guy ran into the office Tony had escaped
to. At this point I saw a blur go across the warehouse as Bitch
dived off the crates she was hiding on and threw a grenade after
the Hockey mask guy into the office. Damm she's fast.
The remaining goons had been dispatched and we were engaged in
the function of pouring bullets into the flaming wreck of an
office in order to kill a crime lord (Blue had lent me his M16 as
my AK was still on the bridge of the boat we hijacked) when the
corpse of Tony the Chef came flying out of the office with a
sharp pointy metal thing kind of like the ones the hockey mask
guy was wielding stuck in it. At this point an Earthquake struck
and the building started to collapse around us, the Hockey mask
guy got away while we were reeling from the shock of the quake,
we looted the corpse of the field devices and legged it, Sly only
pausing on the way out to kill the guy was torturing. Nice.
